The latest report released by the Chinese’s ministry of industry and information technology (MIIT) shows that the Chinese smartphones market is really huge. According to this report, China sold 457 million smartphones in 2015, It represents more than 30% of the country’s population! And also 17.7% more than the previous year.
This report provides us other information relative to the telecom industry in China in 2015, Here are the most important:
- In China, 1.3 billion people are mobile phone users, most of them still use feature phones and not smartphones.
- There are 213 million fixed broadband connections, whose 70% are speeder than 8 Mbps
- There are 785 million people who access the web via mobile devices (tablet and smartphones)
- In 2015, 289 million persons subscribe to 4G. The total number of 4G users is now 386 million
However, you should take this information with a grain of salt!
Even if those data come from official source, some studies show different numbers. As an example, we saw here that the MIIT reports tells us that China had, in 2015, 785 million of mobile broadband users, whereas an other study from CNNIC (an other Chinese internet authority) says that Chinese total userbase in 2015 is “only” 688 million. Even if the cause of the discrepancy is not clear, we can imagine it’s because of the MIIT counts each mobile as as a single user and the CNNIC counts one person with several devices.
Wechat is so important in China !
